Florence’s picnic point

The beautiful city of Florence is one of the best places in the world to enjoy a cheeky vino. It’s impossible to go wrong if you’re looking for a place to just sit and watch the city go by. In saying that, there are degrees of “right”.

Old Mate, Saint Mark

If you’re heading to Venice, whether or not you’d planned on it, you’ll almost inevitably visit the famed St Mark’s Square. St Mark’s Square (or piazza san Marco to the Italians) is the main public square in Venice, named as such for the cathedral down the Eastern End dedicated to old mate, Saint Mark. As one of the main “attractions” in the city, it was imperative that when we visited Venice, the square was on the list of things to see.

Brisbane by Night

It may only be because I’ve lived here for so long that I feel like this, but one of the things that I am constantly thankful for in Brisbane is how safe it is to walk around at night. Thank god too, because this city sure is beautiful at night! This is just some snaps from a little stroll I took with my fellow Potterhead Amy a couple of weeks back.

Will You Go Out To Muir Woods Today?

Lets talk about trees. Now, it would be a total lie to say that I travelled across the world to examine different eco-cultures, but appreciate what nature has to offer up there? That I can get amongst! Outside of San Francisco, we compensated for missing our tour to Yosemite with an, albeit smaller, but still impressive national park.

The Top 20 Hidden Views of Cinque Terre

I’m going to make a very big call here. Cinque Terre, in the North of Italy, is literally the most beautiful place I have ever been. And I have been some pretty beautiful places. Personally, I think Cinque Terre appealed so much to me because it combined everything I love in one place. You have the beautiful Mediterranean, mountain views, gorgeous vineyards, fishing boats, and best of all, a lot of little hidden gems, thanks to the Italians habit of putting things in random places.

A Shoukingly Good Breakfast

Brisbane foodies have been losing their mind over Paddington’s Shouk Cafe’ recently, so of course when I finally got a day off I headed straight over to check it out! Going in with such high expectations is always a risky move, but when those expectations get met, it’s a really good time.

‘Straya Day, Mate

The one day a year when it is actually acceptable to go out in togs/swimmers/bathers (whatever you want to call them) and thongs (the shoes… obviously) is fast approaching, and if you haven’t started planning for it yet, you’ll want to start soon, or there’ll be no snags for the barbie.

The Red-Hot Ginger Pig of Byron

The two greatest things, in my opinion, about living in Australia are beach trips and great food, and if I can have a day that combines those two things, well, that is just the best time ever.

Hopping out for scotch and beans

While hops scotch and beans may sounds like some strange mix of a child’s game and a bedtime story, don’t be fooled into thinking you’ll improve your coordination or score magic beans at this Paddington bar and cafe’. Hops scotch and beans is a cafe’, bar and kitchen in Brisbane’s Paddington up on Petrie Terrace.

Surviving Vegas 101

Las Vegas, the infamous city in the middle of the desert in Nevada, brings in thousands of tourists every year to tempt them with all things sinful. Vegas caters for their touristy audience by being the big, bright and over the top, and they’ve made that look work for them in a big way. But like any touristy city, there is a life underneath all the glitter and lights, and if you’re wanting to avoid the tourist traps, you’ll want to tap into it.
